The practice strategies on OptiLeague

This page lists all of the practice strategies (or algorithms) you can choose from in OptiLeague to review your cards.

These strategies are available on the Strategies page when you are logged in.

Practice a single deck

Here are the strategies to review the cards from a specific deck:

  1. Cards from oldest to newest. Review cards in the order you created them. Good for reinforcing foundational concepts first.
  2. Cards in random order. The ultimate test. Prevents reliance on card sequence and mimics real-world recall.
  3. Cards with the lowest score first. Focus your time on what you haven't mastered yet. Most efficient for improving weak areas.
  4. A random previous strategy (recommended default strategy). Keeps practice varied and prevents your brain from gaming any single approach.

Practice all decks

Here are the strategies to review the cards from all of your decks:

  1. A random deck. Practice all cards from one randomly selected deck. Good for focused review sessions when you want to work through an entire topic in one sitting. Adds variety to your routine without decision fatigue.
  2. The deck with the lowest score. Automatically targets your weakest subject area. Most efficient strategy for improving overall mastery. You're always working on what needs the most attention.
  3. Random cards. Pull cards randomly from all your decks. The ultimate mixed practice—forces your brain to context-switch and strengthens recall. Great for exam prep when you need to recall information from any topic at any time.
  4. The cards with the lowest score first. Like strategy #2, but at the card level instead of deck level. Systematically works through your weakest individual cards across all subjects. Most efficient for comprehensive improvement.
  5. The cards reviewed a long time ago first. Prioritizes cards you haven't seen recently, preventing knowledge decay. Perfect for maintaining long-term retention across large card collections. Ideal for ongoing professional development or language maintenance.
  6. A random previous strategy (recommended default strategy). Randomly selects one of the above strategies each session. Keeps your practice unpredictable and well-rounded.
